The Feb. 28 New York Times’s series “Room for Debate” discusses putting public employees into 401 (k)-style retirement plans. EBRI’s Research Director Jack VanDerhei joins the debate as one of the invited experts.
VanDerhei’s comments address only what EBRI research has found over the past several decades, concerning the trend away from defined benefit (pension) plans to 401(k)s in the private sector, and potential income replacement rates under both types of plans.
